Computer Aided Design - CAD
CAD drawing files are a critical component of a Space Inventory and Accounting program. Special skills are required to create or prepare CAD files for use with a CAFM System (Computer Aided Facility Management)
The person in charge of the CAD files will be familiar with desktop CAD editors such as the industry standard applications AutoCAD or AutoCAD LT and possibly "Draftsight" a free CAD editor that mirrors AutoCAD's commands and file formats.
Every CAD Operator will have experience with the following common editing commands:
- Manage Layers, Colors, Line-types, Visibility
- Create and Modify Closed Polylines
- Block Creation, Manipulation and Explode
- Text Editing Tools
- Creating Walls, Doors and Windows
- Establishing Drawing Extents
- Using LayISO and LayOFF
- Units of Measure - Imperial and Metric
- Manage External Reference Files - X-Refs
- Hatching and Fill Pattern control
- Freeze and Thawing of Layers
- Printing and Plotting Controls and Options
- Save As - File Formats: DWG, PNG, PDF
- File Naming Practices, Version Control
- Basic understanding of AEC terminology
- Basic understanding of Space Inventory terminology - BOMA. IFMA
- Internal/External Gross, Vertical Penetrations, Office and Support Space etc.
